Which is most popular trekking route in Khumbu ?
There is no doubt, Everest base Camp trekking route is the most popular trekking route in Khumbu.
There are several ways to get Everest base camp. For example, you can go through Gokyo Lake for a great diversion. A trip from Chhukhung valley is another worth trip to EBC. There are other combine trek with Everest base Camp trek.

How long does it trek to Everest Base Camp ?
It depend on your trekking route. Most of the Everest base camp trekkers take about 11/12 days from Lukla. If you start your trekking from Jiri it will takes 18 days, if you go through Gokyo Lake it will take around 15 days.

Who can join Everest Base camp trekking?
Everest base camp trekking is moderate trekking and suitable for all kind of travelers. If you can walk 5/6 hours in a day on steep hillside, then you can easily reach Everest base camp. However walking in high altitude you should have good health and pre-exercise is recommended like swimming, running, cycling and etc.

Is it better to go in spring or fall and what is the weather different?
The spring season start with cold and gets warmer whereas fall season start with warm and gets cold. Both season can see significant mountains views and weather is clear. In general skies are clearer in fall thus mountains are more clear in this seasons. It is very common to experience the rain in both season in between Lukla and Namche.

What kind of gear do you need for Everest base camp trekking?
Normally equipment and clothing are individual’s choice. However, you are going to high altitude so you should have carry warm and enough clothes to survive in cold weather. Following is the general gear list!

  • Camera
  • Toilet paper, biodegradable
  • 1 liter of water with Gatorade in a Camelback since it is not freezing but also bring a Nalgene bottle
  • Steri Pen for purifying stream water
  • Synthetic or nylon top and pants, no cotton
  • Comfortable low top boots that are not too heavy, no need for heavy leather boots
  • Bandanna for nose and head wipes – you will be surprised!
  • Headlamp in case you get caught after dark – it happens
  • Trekking poles
  • Warm jacket for surprise wind or snow storm, preferably with a hood
  • Knit cap and a ball cap
  • Gloves, one thin for sun protection and another for warmth
  • Rain jacket (lightweight)
  • Sunglasses (100% UV), sunscreen, lip Baum
  • A few bars of trail food
  • iPod. Along the trail and for snoring roommates. I like the shuffle without a hard disc so it will work at altitude and the battery last longer.
  • A clean, dry shirt and socks to change into once arriving at the teahouse while waiting for your duffle to arrive

What about the communication during the trekking?
Now a days cell phone is working most part of the Everest Base Camp trekking. There is also pre-Paid internet facilities which is provided by Everest link.

How do you recharge batteries?
The teahouses have ability to charge batteries via their solar. However if there is cloudy for long time it might be problem. So, always better to carry extra batteries or power bank to recharge your batteries.

What are the condition of guesthouse during the trek?
There are pretty good teahouse in Everest Base Camp trekking. If you are not with low cost guide service – they pick the old the houses. The better service book trekkers in solid teahouses which are clean.
but still we always recommended your own sleep bag.

Is it possible to climb mountain?
There is Kalapattar 5545 meters just above the Gorak Shep, it is a wonderful and easy climb that offers amazing 360 degree views of surrounding Everest Himalayan range. Just make sure that you have good acclimate to climb Kalapattar.

If you want something technical then Kalapattar you can climbing Island peak or Lobuche during Everest base camp trekking. To climb these peak you should have climbing permit. They are not consider a normal trekking Itinerary.

Any suggestion ?
Try to reach Namche in the morning of Saturday where you will get weekly market. Go to Tengboche monastery which is the biggest monastery in Khumbu. Try spin every prayer wheel you pass. Climb Kalapttar for amazing views of Himalayas including Mt. Everest. Stop and take a picture of children and show it back to them. Walk slowly and enjoy every moment of trekking.
