Punakha Durbchen is popular three day festival held in the month of February, following the lunar calendar. The festival holds the significant importance as the festival is celebrated in order to remember victory of Bhutanese over the invading Tibetan army. The colorful popular Mask and Cham dance along with other folk dances are the activity the visitor or the travelers could witness. Once attending the festival tourist will learn about the rich culture of Bhutan as well as can have an idea of historic Bhutan dating back to 17th century.

Itinerary

Day 01

Flight to Paro (25 February 2023)
Today we will catch the flight to Bhutan and land on the place called Paro. The 1.5 hrs. drive will take you to capital of country Thimpu. Rest of the time you could do some sightseeing at Tashichho Dzong, Drake Wangyal Khanzang Stupa and others. You will be welcomed by one of the representatives at Paro airport.

Day 2

Thimpu to Punakha (26 February 2023)
The 2.5 hour drive will take you Punakha where the festival is held. Rest of the time you can do some sightseeing at places as Chhimi Lhakhang, Khamsum Y.N Chorten, suspension bridge etc.

Day 3

Festival (27 February 2023)
You will be witnessing the activity that will be going on during festival.

Day 4 (28 February 2023)

Festival (22 February 2023)
You will be witnessing the festival and the rituals going on.

Day 5

Drive back to Paro (March 1 2023)
Today 3.5 hour drive will take you back to place called Paro. Rest of the time you can do some sightseeing at Paro. National museums, Dungstse Stupa, Ringpung Dzong and others.

 

Day 6

Visit to Taktshang Monastery (March 2 2023)
Located 7 km away from Paro town and have to hike 2 hour from mountain base. The monastery is built on scary cliff. The hike to monastery makes a wonderful half day excursion. The place is also known as Tiger nest. Rest of the time you can do some sightseeing as well as chill around the places of Bhutan.

Day 7

Fly back to next destination (March 3 2023)
Usually if one could get the connecting flight from Paro flying to Delhi, Bangkok or  to their next destination then it’s not necessary to fly back Kathmandu.
