The most popular festival held at Chhoekhor Gewog in Bumthang. Also known as fire festival where fire blessing is performed in an open ground and people usually circles them. The monks perform purification rituals while people jump over the flames in order to purify themselves. It is also believed that this festival will brings peace and prosperity and ensure better harvest for the community as well. Several mask dances are also performed in this festival. Thangbi Mani is a unique festival that displays unique rich culture and tradition and celebration.

Itinerary

Day 1

Flight to Paro (22nd September)
Today we will catch the flight to Bhutan and land on the place called Paro. The 1.5 hrs. drive will take you to capital of country Thimpu. Rest of the time you could do some sightseeing at Tashichho Dzong, Drake Wangyal Khanzang Stupa and others. You will be welcomed by one of the representatives at Paro airport.

Day 2

Thimpu to Punakha (23rd September)
The 2.5 hour drive will take you Punakha which will be our stop for today. Rest of the time you can do some sightseeing at places as Chhimi Lhakhang, Khamsum Y.N Chorten, suspension bridge etc.

Day 3

Punakha to Gangtey (24th September)
Today, we will be travelling to Gangtey, covering a distance of approximately 78 km which will take us around 3 hours by road. Once we reach Gangtey, we will indulge in some sightseeing, particularly at the Gangtey Monastery, which is a revered religious institution of the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. It is also known as the Gangtey Gonpa and serves as the primary center for the Pema Lingpa tradition. The monastery is located in the Wangdue Phodrang district of central Bhutan. Gangtey is renowned for being home to the black-necked crane, a magnificent bird that migrates from the Tibetan plateau.

Day 4

Gangtey to Bumthang (25th September)
Today, we have a long journey ahead of us as we need to travel for approximately 4.5 hours to reach Bumthang, the location of the ongoing festival. However, the effort put into the drive will be worthwhile once we reach Bumthang and immerse ourselves in the festivities.

Day 5-6

Festival (26th-27th September)
We will witness the festival going on and enjoy it. We will also purify our self and be part of this exotic festival.

Day 7

Drive back to Thongsa (28th September)
Following the wonderful festival in Bumthang, we will make our way back to Thongsa. The return journey will require us to cover a distance of approximately 80 km, which will take us around 2.5 hours to drive. In the evening, we will have the opportunity to visit a remarkable monastery and the textile school.

Day 8

Drive back Paro (29th September)
Today, we will be driving for around 3.5 hours to return to the town of Paro. Once we arrive, we will have ample time to engage in some sightseeing activities, such as visiting the National Museum, the Dungtse Stupa, the Ringpung Dzong, and other notable places of interest.

Day 9

Visit to Taktshang Monastery (30th September)
The monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest, is situated 7 km from Paro town and requires a 2-hour hike from the mountain base to reach it. The monastery is perched on a steep and intimidating cliff, which makes the hike an exhilarating half-day adventure. After visiting the monastery, you can spend the rest of your time sightseeing and relaxing in the charming locations of Bhutan.

Day 10

Departure from Bhutan (1st October)
Usually if one could get the connecting flight from Paro flying to Delhi, Bangkok or  to their next destination then it’s not necessary to fly back Kathmandu.
