Ghorepani trek, also popular as Ghorepani-Poonhill trek, is a quick escape to the wilderness of western Nepal. This trek lies inside the Annapurna Conservation Area Project which is a home for various species of flora and fauna. Ghorepani-Poonhill trek is a short trek which is perfect for first time trekkers and families as well. It is best fit for trekkers who don’t want to ascend high altitude places but enjoy the mighty side of the great Himalayas. The trip is filled with beautiful sceneries, the great Himalayas, local people, their lifestyle with their unique culture and traditions. The highest point of this trek is Poonhill located at an altitude of 3210 m which offers magnificent views of the beautiful snow-capped mountains including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Mt. Fishtail, Hiuchuli, Gangapurna, Tukuche peak, Tilicho peak and many more. This place displays one of the gorgeous sunrises of your lifetime with the Himalayan background.

Poonhill was first discovered by Tek Bahadur Poon after which the place was named Poonhill. This trek can be done between the month of March to June and September to Early December. The best month to visit is May as the trails will be full of beautifully glooming rhododendrons. You can experience snow fall during November. Beside this, the trek routes consist of numerous hotels and lodges with excellent accommodation and food. 

Ghorepani-Poonhill trek starts from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Here, you will explore around the UNESCO world’s heritage site and prepare for your trek. You will head towards Pokhara which is a popular tourist hub. This place is famous for its lake and lakeside; also considered as the lakecity of Nepal. From here, you will drive up-to Nayapul from where the trek starts. You will trek towards Birethanti and then ascend the steep uphill of Ulleri. This is the hardest part of the trek. After that, you will walk through the dense forest of pines and rhododendron. You will reach Ghorepani from where you will have an early morning hike to Poonhill for the sunrise view. After enjoying the beautiful sunrise, you will descend down and head towards Ghandruk via Tadapani. From Ghandruk, you will have an overland drive to Pokhara and return back Kathmandu for your final departure.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kathmandu Airport.
This day, you will arrive at Kathmandu from your home country. During your arrival, our office representative will be waiting for you at the airport entrance for your warm welcome. Our private vehicle will drop you to the hotel which will be around Thamel area. Reaching your hotel, rooms will be assigned as per the reservation. We will meet you at the hotel for follow-up.
During the evening, we will celebrate your welcome with a warm dinner at a typical Nepali restaurant.

Day 2

Exploration day at Kathmandu.
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal located at an altitude of around 1400 m. This beautiful valley is home for some UNESCO world's heritage site. This day, you will explore around these heritage site around Kathmandu valley. For this exciting sightseeing tour, our city guide will come to your hotel with a private vehicle managed by us. The city guide will lead you around the sites explaining its importance and values. Make sure to clear all your queries about the heritage site with him.
After the sightseeing tour, our vehicle will drop you to your hotel. Remaining part of the day, you can chill around Thamel Bazar, a popular tourist hub of Kathmandu.

Day 3

Kathmandu-Pokhara flight; Explore around Pokhara.
Early morning, you will have your breakfast and then head towards Tribhuwan International Airport. Our private vehicle will drop you at the airport. You will have an exciting flight of around 25 minutes from Kathmandu to Pokhara. During the flight, you can enjoy aerial view of Kathmandu and Pokhara admiring the great Himalayas in the background.


On your arrival at Pokhara, our private vehicle will pick you up and drop you to the hotel at Pokhara lakeside. After some rest at the hotel, you will explore some beautiful places around Kathmandu valley on our private vehicle. Remaining part of the day, you can have some chilling time around the lakeside of Pokhara.

Day 4

Drive Pokhara to Nayapul; Trek Tikhedhunga. (2 hours’ drive; 3 hours trek.
Early morning after breakfast, you will have a wonderful drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. This overland drive may take around 2 hours enjoying the landscape and scenery. Nayapul is the starting point of the trek where our vehicle will drop you. From Nayapul, you will walk through the trails along Modi Khola. You will pass Birethanti and finally reach Tikhedhunga. The trek will normally take around 3 hours to reach Tikhedhunga which is a small settlement on the bank of Modi Khola just below Ulleri hill.
At Tikhedhunga, rooms will be assigned and remaining part of the day is free to explore around or rest at the hotel.

Day 5

Trek Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani. (2,840 m).
This day, you will first ascend steep uphill to reach the top of Ulleri. After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and then start the ascend. The trail from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri consist of more than 3000 stone steps. This part of the trek can be completed in around 1.5 hours. From Ulleri, you will walk through the dense forest of rhododendron passing upper and lower Nangethati to finally reach Lower Ghorepani. From here, Upper Ghorepani is just 10 minutes walk which is situated at an altitude of 2840 m. It will be a total of 5 hours trek this day.


Reaching Ghorepani, you will be assigned with your room keys. Ghorepani displays beautiful mountains vistas and sceneries. You can admire amazing sceneries during the remaining part of the day.

Day 6

Hike Poonhill (3,210 m); Trek to Tadapani. (2,610 m).
This day, you will wake up early in the morning and hike upto Poonhill for the sunrise view. Poonhill is around 1.5 hours uphill ascend from Ghorepani. During the hike, amazing mountain vista including Annapurna south, Hiuchuli, Fishtail, Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri and other peaks will be cherishing you with their mighty side. Reaching Poonhill, you will enjoy a gorgeous sunrise view with the greta Himalayas. The golden moment is the main attraction of this trek along with the Himalayas. You will spend some time at Poonhill and then descend back to Ghorepani.

From Ghorepani, you will check out from the hotel and head towards Tadapani. Tadapani is around 4 hours descend from Ghorepani passing Deurali. The trail follows beautiful forest and various ups and downs on stone steps. It will be a trek of around 6 hours in hotel.

Reaching Tadapani located at an altitude of 2610 m, you will check-in at the hotel. Remaining part of the day is free to explore around Tadapani.

Day 7

Trek Tadapani to Ghandruk. (1,940 m).
This day is the last day of the trek. From Tadapani, you will descend down to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a large settlements of the Gurung people. The Gurungs are also known as the Himalayan tribe. Beside that, this village is situated just below the Himalayas due to which it is popular as the Himalayan village.
Early morning after breakfast, you will start descending down to Ghandruk. It will take around 4 hours to reach Ghandruk. Beautiful view of the village and its stone roofed houses can be admired before reaching Ghandruk. At Ghandruk, rooms will be assigned. Do not forget to miss the sunset view from Ghandruk. Remaining part of the day, you can explore around the village to look at the people's lifestyle.

Day 8

Drive Ghandruk to Pokhara. (3.5 hours’ drive).
Early morning, you will hike upto the view point of Ghandruk. You will enjoy amazing sunrise view with the scenery of Himlayas and the village. Then, you will descend down and explore around the village. There is an old museum which has preserved anceint Gurung custom and traditions. You will visit the museum as well. After that, you will check out from the hotel and drive to Pokhara. The drive will be around 3.5 hours passing Birethanti, Nayapul and Kande to finally Pokhara.

At pokhara, you will check-in at the hotel. Remaining part of the day is free to explore around Pokhara and its lakeside.

Day 9

Pokhara Kathmandu flight.
This day, you will fly Kathmandu from Pokhara in an early morning flight. The flight will offer amazing views during the morning. It will take around 25 minutes for the flight. At Kathmandu, our private vehicle will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. After that, you can rest or explore around Thamel Bazar.
During the evening, we will celebrate the success of our trip together at a typical Nepali restaurant.

Day 10

Final departure.
Free to do shopping until transfer at the airport. Our private vehicle will drop you at the airport before 3 hours of your flight schedule for airport formalities. We wish to organize your another trip to Nepal soon. Namaste!

HOW CAN I ENTER NEPAL ?

Nepal is a popular tourist destination in south Asia. Several airlines have direct and non-stop flights from Middle East and Asia to Kathmandu, Capital of Nepal. There are direct flights from London, Paris, Frankfurt, Doha, Osaka, Shanghi, Mascow, Bangkok, Singapore, Hongkong, Karachi, Bombay, Delhi, Culcutta, Paro, Dhaka, Lhasa & Varanasi.

All visitors can enter by Land through any of these entry points on the India-Nepal Boarder.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL IN NEPAL ?

Because of its elevation, Nepal can divided into three zones-the high mountains, the mid-hills and the flat plains called the Terai. The Everest, Langtang and Annapurna Trekking destinations in the mountains are cool throughout the year. The mid-hills, including Kathmandu & Pokhara, are cool except in the summer months from May to July. Temperatures in these cities during the summer remain much cooler that in many cities of the region. Lumbini, Chitwan and Janakpur in the Terai plains are hot in summer ( March-July) but cold in winter( December- February).

Any month of the year would be good to visit Nepal around the mid-hills & flat plains and September to May is good time for trekking and expedition.

IS SOMEONE GOING TO MEET ME AT THE AIRPORT ?

Our airport representative will come to the airport to pick up. We will be displaying a play card Global Holidays Adventure with your name on it. You need a visa to Nepal. You can easily get a visa upon your arrival in TIA airport, Kathmandu on paying US$. 40 for a month US$. 100 for three
months.

DO I HAVE PRE-DEPARTURE MEETING ?

Yes, at first, our staff will receive you at the airport and transfer to the Hotel and our tour leader will brief regarding about the trip. The briefing will cover the itinerary and introduced your trek leader.

While briefing, please bring passport, 3 copies of passport size photos, travel insurance, writing pen and notepad.

HOW DO I PAY TO GLOBAL HOLIDAYS ADVENTURE ?

After the trip confirmation you will send around 25% advance deposited by wire transfer to GHA Bank Account and remaining you can pay after your arrival by Cash or Credit Card but to pay by credit card there will be extra 4% bank service charge. Now Traveler Cheque is not acceptable as per the rule & regulation of Nepal Rastra Bank. We accept visa card, master card & National Card.

WHAT SORT OF ACCOMMODATION CAN EXPECT IN KATHMANDU AND DURING THE TOUR ?

There are all kind of Hotel simple to 5* hotel in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwon, Lumbini and others places. It’s depends on your demand but normally in our tour package we use standard rooms from 3* or 4* on BB Basis.

WHAT'S THE COMMON FROM OF GREETING IN NEPAL ?

It is called Namaste or Namaskar. You can say the greeting in words as well as do it using a gesture. Join your palms together and bring them close to your chest and about 5to 7 inches below your chin. The word Namaste has many meanings such as Hello, How are you?, I am glad to see you, nice to meet you, good morning, etc.

WHAT ARE THE BASIC NEPALI CUSTOMS THAT I NEED TO KNOW ?

  • When visiting a temple, always circumambulate it is a clockwise direction.
  • Take off your shoes before entering a temple or a Nepalese home.
  • Entrance to some temples is forbidden, so look out for such notices.
  • Seek permission to take photographs inside temples or of religious ceremonies.
  • You can accept a handshake offered by either a male or a female but never offer your hand first.
  • Show decency in dress and avoid any show of public affection.

WHAT IS THE CURRENCY OF NEPAL ?

Nepalese currency is spelled as Nepalese Rupees or Rupee ( Rs) or Nepali Rupee, and in short it is NRS or Rs. 100 Paisa equals 1 Rs. Currently Notes of the following denominations are used 1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 Rupees. Coin has not been popular in Nepal hence is almost always ignored in business.

It is illegal to exchange foreign currency with persons and organizations other than those authorized such as Travel Company, Banks, Hotels and Licensed money changers.

DO I NEED TO TIP MY GUIDE AND DRIVER ? HOW MUCH WOULD THAT BEST ?

This is difficult things to tell. It’s up to you from your heart by looking their work and support. Tipping is not required, but a small way to show your guides and drivers thanks for their help. The level of the tip should reflect the level of personal involvement with your guide.

  • Nepal does not require any specific immunization for visitors. It is however best to have vaccine before coming to Nepal. Your doctors can advice you on the type of vaccine to be taken to travel to third world countries like Nepal.
