The unexplored paradise located in isolated western part of Nepal with amazing landscapes and scenic beauty which captivates your heart since day 1 of walking in the trail. It is the hidden gem in western Nepal. This place only have very few tourism infrastructure. The place is very different from any other tourism destination in Nepal.

Home to various unique Himalayan ecosystem followed by variety of floras and faunas the trails is fascinated with natural and cultural diversity of the region. This place is also one of the major yet tough shooting spot for various Nepalese as well as international movies. This trek starts with two domestic flights among them one will provide you bone chilling experience. The place is very far from the wave of modernization so staying in local houses and camping is the only option available.

With some astonishing views of mountain and landscapes with local Buddhist culture accompanied by out well experienced Guides and responsible porters you will definitely be able to complete this trek. However, it is long and mentally challenging sometimes. The trails are uphill but some places have high descending rate so it is recommended to carry some personal knee support. General Cardio is recommended as well. Proper acclimatization is necessary as well.

Itinerary

Day 01

Arrival
You will be welcomed at Kathmandu airport by one of our representative and will take you to hotel. There will be small meeting regarding the trip at evening.

Day 2

Flight to Nepalgunj
Well today we take a flight to Nepalgunj which will last about one hour from Kathmandu. The town itself is fascinating place as it is near boarder to India and show case interesting culture of Terai region in Nepal. Rest of the time you can explore the area.

Day 3

Flight to Jhupal (2494m/8182ft.) and trek to Dhunai (2140m/7020ft) 3hrs.
After 35 minutes of flight from Nepalgunj we reach to Jhupal where we start trekking. We walk comfortably through some fields and along the river Thuli Bheri and reach to Dhunai. Dhunai is district headquarter containing some schools, government offices and police station. Overnight at Dhunai.

Day 4

Trek to Tarakot (2543m/8341ft. 6hrs.)
The trails today will pass through various small streams and along the Bheri River. You will be passing through dense forest of pine trees. Tarakot is an old fortress build by local people. It is beautiful village filled with terrace farm land on the bank of Bheri River.

Day 5

Trek to Laini (3160m/10365 ft. 6-7 hrs.)
After breakfast at our camp we head towards Laini where we follow the trails of Tarap Chu River while crossing few suspension bridge and rivers. With the views of Sandul Gompa and picturesque landscape we then walk downhill for some time and reach Laini.

Day 6

Trek to Nawarpani (3545m/11627ft. 5hrs)
This day we follow the Tarap Chu River with the trails with stones and little more steep than usual. Passing through gorges jumping from one point to other today is going to be more adventurous. There are some places in the trail which you will be crossing river where logs are kept or used as bridge connecting two end on trails. This day is quite exciting and adventurous.

Day 7

Trek to Dho Tarap (4090m/1341ft. 7-8 hrs.)
Today is going to be a long day today where you will be moving to Dho Tarap also known as heart of Dolpo. Walking on Narrow gorges for few hours from Karmattarka at the junction of Tarap Chu and Lang River we will reach village of Dho Tarap surrounded by irregular stone walls. Few Tibetan and magar people resides there since centuries.

Day 8

Acclimatization Day
Dho Tarap also known as heart of Dolpo where approximately 1,500 people live in three village clusters in the valley: Dho, Tokyu, and Lang. Dho has 120 households and is located at an altitude of about 3,800m.

Breathtaking landscape, serene rivers and turquoise-colored lakes, spectacular villages, ancient monasteries, stupas and mani walls, distinct vernacular architecture, rich traditions of Bon, Buddhism, and Amchi, are some of the things which gives your lifetime experience.

Day 9

Trek to Numala Base Camp (4440m/14563ft. 6hrs.)
Today after breakfast we will follow the trail leading to valley with rivers and green grassland. Ascending from Dho Tarap following such landscape, the views here are eye popping. By reaching valley we ascend up hill and reach Tokyo village. From here trails are little more difficult than usual. It takes around 3 hours in order to reach Numala Base camp where our team will be setting up tents for camping.

Day 10

Trek to Pelung Tang (4645m/15269ft.) via Numala Pass. (5190m/17023ft.) 6-7 hours.
We will cross Numla Pass (5190m) as this day we are moving to higher altitude. We ascend uphill all the way to top ridge of Numla pass overlooking the beauty of surrounding valley and mountains also the north face of Dhaulagiri. After reaching pass we then hike downhill and spend night somewhere around Palungtang.

Day 11

Trek to Dajok Tang (4080m/13382ft.) via Baga La Pass (5070m/16630ft. 5-6 hrs.)
This is also going to be high altitude trekking day as we will be crossing another pass. This trek starts with difficult climb to ridge of Baga La Pass (5070m). Beautiful landscape along with majestic Kanjirowa mountain range the views from trail is vibrant and lovely. After some unforgettable moments at top we then will be descending down for few hours and reaching Dajok Tang. 

Day 12

Trek to Ringmo Village (4 hrs. 3600m/11808ft)
Today will be short trek as challenging section of the trek has been completed. Walking with gentle pace we descend through Pine forest and alpine terrain to flatland. One can witness variety of tiny plants, shrubs and vegetation. After walking up and down hill and zigzags we reach final destination for a day. The beauty of Shey Phoksundo Lake will amaze you and makes you forget your tiredness. We will set up camp facing the Lake.

Day 13

Rest/Acclimatization day at Ringmo, Hike to Phoksundo Lake.
Today you will be exploring village of Ringmo which is Buddhist village consisting of monastery full of arts and culture. Besides chilling in camp facing the Lake we will also hike to the lake. The Shey Phoksundo Lake is also best place to chillax. You will notice Yaks carrying to their destination.

Day 14

Trek to Shyangta (6 hrs. 2520m/8265ft.)
With wonderful morning view from our Tents and with lovely breakfast, with lake view from campsite. Finishing our meal we then descend downhill to Chekpa. We then pass several small and scattered villages throughout the trails and then we finally reach to Shyangta.

Day 15

Trek to Jhupal (5hrs 2494m/8182ft.)
Today after breakfast we will trek to Jhupal remember the place from where our trek started. We descend from river trails and go uphill through meadows. We will pass small settlement of Kala Gaura (2090m) and after walking for few hours we finally reach to Jhupal. The team willset up the camp at Jhupal.

Day 16

Flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj, Nepalgunj to Kathmandu
After early breakfast we move to Jhupal from where we will be landing at Nepalgunj and we fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 17 

Departure
Our representative will drop you at airport in order for you to get to your next destination.

FAQ

How difficult is Dolpo trek?

The trek can be considered as difficult in terms of duration as this is long trek where there is not much accommodation service available. You must camp and some days trails are rugged and sometimes difficult.

Do we need some extra money?

It is advised to keep some change of Nepalese rupees as during the trail you might want to buy something like bottled water or some energy bars.

What happens in case of emergency?

Helicopter rescue is only the option in case of emergency as it is suggested to have some travel insurance covering the rescue service.

What is fitness requirement for the trek?

You should be fit but not super fit. This is a moderate level trekking. There is no requirement of prior trekking experience. Ensuring proper acclimatization days and with proper gears you can easily complete this trek but carrying some personal knee support and general cardio is recommended.

 

 

 

 

Is there communication service?

The communication service on trails are available in few areas and some villages have telephone from where you can make international calls as well. The entire trip doesn’t favors in communication as some palce you might not get cell service.

How to prevent Altitude sickness?

The perfect way to avoid AMS is by proper acclimatization and in some case medicinal tablets like Acetazolamide and some others.
