Dolpo region lies in the shey- Phoksundo National park of mid- western Nepal behind the Dhaulagiri almost in the Tibetan plateau which cut off by a series of very high passes and closed by the snow most of the year. The isolated region of Dolpo is a true habitant for Tibetian stock for centuries. Tibetan stock continue to live, cultivate and trade the way they have done since time immemorial.
Dolpo Trekking was started in 1989 and is still hard to match from rest of the world for its flawless magnificence and tough appeal, where one can even now have chance to meet the real nomads and their way of life practically untouched and unexplored.
The towns, gompa’s and individuals you meet amid this trek will leave an extraordinary impact on you. The scenes here are much more desolate than on the other towns significantly more disengaged and untouched.
The Dolpo trekking brings you to Shey Gompa, which is regularly alluded as the profound heart of Upper Dolpo. It’s a supernatural spot, arranged at the base of Crystal Mountain. Crystal Mountain is visited by many pioneers every year, who make it around the mountain, Dolpo’s own adaptation of Mount Kailash.
This is very much a strenuous trek. You need to cross three high passes, Nagdalo La of 5350 m, the Shey La of 5000 m and Jeng La of 5110 m. These intersections include long ascend and long descend. Be that as it may, the remarkable scenes, the perspectives from the passes and the contacts with an extremely exceptional untouched society make it all justified, despite all the trouble.
