One of the isolated and off the beaten trail which is very different from many different tourist region in Himalayas of Nepal, Langtang region. The place is enriched with beautiful Tamang heritage and Buddhist faith, Langtang National Park host several natural and cultural wonders of Himalayas in Nepal. The region is mostly dominated by Langtang range, Yala peak, Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung (7246) is the highest among all. This trail is perfect for young and old people as well.
The place is filled with variety of holy as well as clear lakes like Gosaikunda, Suryakunda, and Bhairav Kunda are some of them. You could see alignment of two religion beautifully as such lakes are holy place for Hindu people but have lots of Buddhist prayer flags ensuring both peace and tranquility among the religion as well as for the people. The place is also home to wild life and vegetation such as Wild boar, Cheetah, Himalayan Black Bear, Ghoral and Grey Langur. Pine forest, oak trees, maple trees and some beautiful colored wild mushrooms. The best time for this trek is during autumn and spring season where you can see lustful forest of rhododendron as well.
During the trek you will come across many Yak pastures and local cheese factory. Their unique culture, clothing and cuisine are strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhist. In various places along the trail, you can see ancient monasteries and small stupas carved into prayer flags and wheels.
This trek route is considered as one of the moderate trails in Himalayas in Nepal as well. The trails are uphill but very few places have high ascending rate so it is recommended to carry some personal knee support. General Cardio is recommended as well.
Requirements
Drive to Syabru Besi (8hrs. 2380m/7808ft.)
This eight hours crazy bus ride or private vehicle ride will take you to place called Syabru besi where you will be passed by famous white water rafting river Trishuli. The roads are bumpy and full of twists and turns. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills to Sybru Besi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills.
Trek to Lama Hotel (2500m/8202ft.) 5 hours.
The first day of trekking after crazy drive yesterday, the trail follows Langtang Khola and moves towards rhododendron forest as you ascend to Rimche through many bamboos forest. There is high chance to see red panda and bears on the trails.
Trek to Langtang Village (3307m/10849ft.) 5hours
The trail today follows Gumanechowk, Ghoda Tabela meaning Horse Stable and beautiful valley with sight of yak pastures. The village of Langtang is one of the authentic and oldest village in this trekking route. The views from here is spectacular as we are close to mountains.
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3798m/12460ft) 4 hours.
Today after breakfast we move towards Kyanjin Gompa. This place has ancient Buddhist monastery and local yak cheese factory. Today will be short hike and you can have sightseeing in nearby place.

It's a day to rest and explore the area of Kyanjin Gompa and around. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory, walk up the moraine to see the spectacular ice faces and tumbling glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin Ri (4350meters) which is highest point of this trek, directly behind the village, for a breath-taking panorama view of Langtang Lirung, ShisaPagma, Dorje Lakapa and other various snowcapped giants. You will also have several non-technical peak climbing options.
Trek back to Lama Hotel (2500m/8202ft.) 6 hours.
After our early breakfast in Kyanjin Gompa, we ascend down to Lama Hotel.
Trek to Syabru Besi (1462m) 5 hours.
Today, leaving the mountains behind you descent to Syabru Besi where your trek started and is the ending point as well.
Drive back to Kathmandu by bus. 8 hours.
After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu from Syabru Besi which will take some 9 hours by bus or private vehicle depending on group size. You will be shifted to the same Hotel from where you left.
It is moderate level of trekking anyone who can carry light bag pack and walk 5-6 hours daily can complete this trek as maximum elevation is around 3798m and there is very less chance of altitude sickness.
The best season to trek is spring (March to June) and autumn (September to December). The temperature is moderate and in these seasons you can have amazing views.
No, you don’t need any trekking experience as the trails are not too tough, mostly easy but general cardio or walk is recommended months before the trek.
Accommodation are usually simple basic lodge and teahouses whereas foods are similar to Kathmandu but some places don’t make food items even if it is written in menu.
You should be fit but not super fit. This is a moderate level trekking. There is no requirement of prior trekking experience. Ensuring proper acclimatization days and with proper gears you can easily complete this trek but carrying some personal knee support and general cardio is recommended.
Drinking water will be provided in the teahouses during the journey up to the base camp, either from taps, boiling water, or bottled water. We also recommend using steriepen or other water purification solutions.
