Tiji festival jeep tour is an outstanding over landing experience leading in the valley of Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang. This tour is based on the date of Tigi festival. Normally, Tigi festival happens during month of May following the Tibetan lunar calendar with in the town of Lo Manthang. The three day celebration is usually battle between good and evil in which it contains chants and dances performed by monks in colorful dresses.

Tigi festival last for three days and is performed in front of the ancient Royal Palace of Upper Mustang. According to some ancient stories, a demons or bad spirits used to trouble the people on Mustang region with some evil deeds. The evil spirits blocked the water and spread various disease in Mustang region. Dorje Jono, a monk of Chodde monastery freed the entire region of Mustang fighting the demons and defeating them. This included the prayers, chants and mask dance lasting over for three days in monastery of Lo Manthang. Everyone including the royal families gathered in monastery and act as participants in the sacred dance.

This tour is especially designed for those travelers wanting to have a close interaction with people and their culture. Travelers get an opportunity to observe unique festival with unique culture and ancient lifestyle with Tibetan influence. Beside that they will get to explore beautiful landscape, dry valley and amazing mountain views.

TIJI tour starts from the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. You will have an amazing sightseeing tour around the UNESCO heritage site of Kathmandu and around Thamel Bazar. From Kathmandu, you will have an amazing flight to Pokhara, also known as Lake City of Nepal. Pokhara is a beautiful city which is the gateway to various trek destination of Annapurna Region. From Pokhara, you will have an adventurous overland tour on a 4WD drive. You will pass Beni, Tatopani, Marpha, Jomsom and Kagbeni. From Kagbeni, you will drive all the way to Muktinath which is a holy sacred place for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrim. Kagbeni is the last stop before entering Upper Mustang.

Special restricted area permit for Upper Mustang is checked at the tourist check post here. This is a restricted place for foreign travelers but after 1992, foreigner were allowed to explore around Upper Mustang with special permits. It is also considered as semi-desert of Nepal. Then, you will start your drive to Lo Manthang passing Chuksang, Chella, Samar, Syangboche, Ghiling and finally to Ghami village. Lo Manthang is regarded as the hidden kingdom of Nepal. This place displays amazing landscapes of Tibetan plateaus and desert like structure. You will stay at Lo Manthang for TIJI festival, participate with the local people and have close interaction with people there for 3 days until TIJI ends. You will also explore around the ancient mysterious Sky caves, cliffs, monasteries and Tibetan cultures. After that, you will retrace your way up to Jomsom.

Celebrated in the courtyard of Royal Palace, Lo Manthang, it is performed during the 3rd Tibetan month (falls on May) for the well-being of all living beings. As it is a lunar festival, the time may differ yearly. Everyone including the Mustang Royal family, people of Lo Manthang, monks from different places and observers gather around to celebrate this festival. Chode monastery organizes this festival and monks from this monastery perform various sacred rituals, dances, chanting and prayers during 3 day TIJI festival. Monks will perform sacred dances showing the destruction of demon in Mustang, Dorje Jono’s birth (the reincarnated) and his defeat over the evil demon.

Flight delay in Pokhara and Jomsom
For Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Trekking often twin Otter is the primary mode of transport form Pokhara to Jomsom and Jomsom to Pokhara. The flight is depend on the weather. Sometime flight (to and from Jomsom ) may be canceled due to the bad weather condition of Mountain or technical problems. In such case Global Holidays Adventure organize alternative available road transportation to ensure your international flight.

The cost of rode transportation will manage from the cancellation of flight ticket. Please note that there will be no refund of the flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, if The alternative road transportation is used.

Day 01

01 May 2024:  Arrival at Kathmandu.
To start this amazing TIJI jeep tour, firstly you have to arrive at Kathmandu. During your arrival at Kathmandu airport, our office representative will welcome you at the airport entrance. A private vehicle will be sent for your hotel transfer. It will take around 25 minutes to reach your hotel which will be reserved around Thamel Bazar.

Reaching the hotel, rooms will be assigned as per the reservation. We will meet you at the hotel for follow up and short meeting. Remaining part of the day is free to rest at the hotel or explore around Thamel.
In the evening, we will enjoy welcome dinner together at a typical Nepali restaurant with some cultural programs.

Day 02

02 May 2024: Permit and Flight to Pokhara (2804 m).
Today we will get our tour permit as upper Mustang is a restricted area and requires a restricted area permit. You need to give your passport to the company, don’t worry your passport will be safe. Later after finishing all the formality for the permit and after obtaining permits we will catch flight to Pokhara. The 25 minute flight will take you to beautiful valley of Pokhara surrounded with mountain.

Day 03

03 May 2024: Flight to Jomsom and Drive to Kagbeni, visit Muktinath.
Today we will catch early morning flight to Jomsom, the short flight of around 16 minutes will take us to place called Jomsom. After having something as late breakfast we will visit Muktinath (a holy place for Buddhist and Hindu). Exploring local markets at Jomsom and Muktinath we then will move towards Kagbeni. Along the way you will be accompanied by picturesque landscape and mountains. We will also explore monastery at Jharkot.

Drive duration: 3 hours

Day 04

04 May 2024: Drive to Charang (3570m).
After checking our restricted area permits at Kagbeni we will explore Kagbeni and head towards Ghami. We will cross the Kali Gandaki river, pass through beautiful settlement of Chuksang, Chella, Samar, Syangboche, and Ghiling and reach Charang. Along the way you will cross many Mani walls, various sky caves and red-ish cliffs. You will also be accompanied by magnificent views mountains.

Drive distance: 43 km     

Drive duration: 5 hours

Accommodation: Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 05

05 May 2024: Drive to Lo Manthang and enjoy first day of Tiji (3840m).
Today happens to be the first day of the Tigi festival. You will witness the festival rituals and cham dance performed by the monks at Chodde Monastery. You will also explore Nepal’s oldest monastery Lo Ghar Gompa on the way to Lo Manthang. The arid landscape with Himalayas as a back drop will definitely mesmerize your eyes. Before witnessing the Tiji we will stop for lunch.

Day 06

06 May 2024: Visit Monasteries in Lo-manthang and celebrate 2nd day Tiji Festival.
Normally festival starts at noon so during morning time we will head towards Chhoser village. Chhoser is about an hour driving distance from Lo Manthang. There is high chance to encounter blue sheep and other exotic wildlife. At Chhoser you will be exploring sky caves. Sky caves is a collection of more than 10,000 manmade caves where archaeologist and researchers had discovered mummified human bodies as well as valuable Buddhist painting and sculptures dating back to 12-14 century.

Day 07

07 May 2024: Final day Tiji festival.
The last day of Tiji, you will be exploring the monasteries and Buddhist school of Lo Manthang. Don’t blame us that after exploring the festival and monastery if you want to turn into monk. You can interact with locals, witness the rituals be part of festival and many more. After celebration of festival we will return back to hotel.

Day 08

08 May 2024: Back to Jomsom.
We will follow the same road that we took in order to reach Lo Manthang. Alongside of Kali Gandaki River following the winding roads we reach Jomsom. After reaching Jomsom you can explore local markets and shop some souvenirs for you near and dear back home.

Drive duration: 6 hour

Day 09

09 May 2024: Fly back to Pokhara.
We will catch the flight back to Pokhara the same 16 minutes flight. By any weather issue if flight did not take off without wasting more time we will drive back to Pokhara. Once we reach Pokhara by air or by road you can spend some time at the lakeside with some beers and good food.

Day 10

10 May 2024: Back to Kathmandu.
After having good time on Pokhara and amazing Lo Manthang packing all your stuff along with beautiful memories of the trip we will fly back to Kathmandu. The flight duration is about 25 minutes and rest of the time you can explore your desired place at Kathmandu.

11 May 2024: Final departure.

Yes, at first, our staff will receive you at the airport and transfer to the Hotel and our tour leader will brief regarding about the trip. The briefing will cover the itinerary and introduced your tour leader.

While briefing, please bring passport, 3 copies of passport size photos, travel insurance, writing pen and notepad.


After the trip confirmation you will send around 25% advance deposited by wire transfer to GHA Bank Account and remaining you can pay after your arrival by Cash or Credit Card but to pay by credit card there will be extra 4% bank service charge. In Kathmandu: Here are all kind of Hotel simple to 5* hotel. It’s depends on your demand but normally in our trekking package we use standard rooms from 3* or 4* on BB Basis.

During the trip: You will have teahouse/lodges generally provide basic clean facilities with a mattress and a quit blanket. We can offer GHA sleeping baggage if needed but it’s good idea to bring your own always. We usually provide you single and double rooms as well as the occasional dormitory. And you will have twin sharing tent with matters in camping trek.

Toilet Facilities During Mustang: On, Trek common toilet facilities are available at tea house. Now some teahouse have attached bathroom.

Shower Facilities: You will have hot shower in all teahouse but some place there isn’t hot shower, we will provide you hot water in bucket for shower.


Weather in the mountains is notoriously difficult to predict. At night it is generally cooler the days are generally warm. Winter ( January and February ) will be bit colder but the days can be quite beautiful and warm if the sun is out. There will be bit of snow during the month of January, February and December. It is also important to makes sure that you can stay warm and dry in just about any condition. Expert the unexpected! The temperature could be as high as 20 degree c to 15 degree c low during day time.


All of our guides are trained in basic first aid and can deal with the basic ailments that may occur on trip. In the event of an emergency Global Holidays Adventure will cover initial expenses of any rescue operation. It is a condition of booking that you are adequately insured for such an events as these expenses will need to be recovered from your insurance company. In the most frequented regions there are health posts, which have been established by foreign doctors and many are staffed by overseas personnel.
